Are ink cartridges for printers the biggest consumer ripoff there is?

The prices are absolutely ridiculous.|||Hmmm. You were hoping for an %26quot;eternal%26quot; ink cartridge that never needs to be replaced? Or just hoping prices for the cartridges were lower?

Different makers charge different prices. My Canon cartridges are about $11 each, and there are 4 (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). Each ink is used at a different rate, so you only have to replace the single color that runs out. Much cheaper than the tri-color mega-cartridge.

The cheaper the printer, the more they%26#039;re going to get you on the ink. That%26#039;s the way they make money.

More expensive printer, cheaper ink.|||I agree! Last time they had a special on Wal Mart. The printer was for 29.99 (great deal, too bad I didint buy it). Back to the point and it said that the ink cartdrige was for 34.99 only the ink!

The damn printer was cheaper (with ink installed obviously) than the cartdrige

Yes cartdrigers are a rip off. Too bad the %26quot;Recycled%26quot; ones aren%26#039;t so good.|||Well there is always the compatible solution. Often times most people say they can%26#039;t tell a difference between the name brand and a compatible version. Here%26#039;s a link to the Cartridge Family where compatibles are available and it also lists the page yield of the cartridges so if there is a higher capacity cartridge, that would be a better way to get more bang for your buck.
