.22 LR rimfire , the only sensible rimfire cartridge the rest are either just too expensive or gimmicks ...?

.22lr is the most available, least expensive, most proven rimfire out there. I don%26#039;t think the others are gimmicks, just examples of companies making them %26quot;because%26quot;. That and the hopes of creating the next own %26quot;.22lr%26quot; or %26quot;.40%26quot; cartridge that will take the world by storm.|||As far as 22 rimfire ammo goes there are applications for the 22 CB, 22 short and 22 long.

Some guns were made to shoot only one type of 22 like the 22 short or 22 long rifle and they will only work with the right type.

The 22 CB is less powerful than the 22 short and is still used by some in 22 revolvers for plinking at close range.

The 22 short is used for guns that only digest that round and for plinking, pest control and dispatching small game caught in a trap like a rabbit.

The 22 long fills the gap between the short and long rifle in revolvers and some rifles and there were guns made just for it.

The 22 LR is the most common or the 22 rimfires and comes in many different bullet weights and velocities. The Israel military uses suppressed 22 LR to silence guard dogs and for taking out guards of the enemy in close combat situations.

The 22 LR bird shot is used by people to kill rodents inside their barn or gain storage areas at very close range as it wont damage the building like a solid 22 LR would.

All the gimmick rounds they have now are expencive, may not feed right in the gun, have questionable performance but are fun for some for varmints and plinking. Of all those the 22 tracer round seems to me good to teach bullet drop on the range as you can see the bullets arc. However that only shows you the bullet drop of that round and not of the sub-sonic or high velocity rounds.

And the sub-sonic rounds have their place. I use them for dispatching animals on my trap line and for quieter plinking. I also found some sub-sonic 22 ammo very accurate. They would be the preferred round when using a suppressor.

So in summery; yes many of the newer 22 ammo are just gimmicks but many are useful for a given task.

Hope this helps.|||.22 lr is a sensible cartridge. I shoot it a lot. It is cheaper. For late season squirrels, though, the .17hmr is hard to beat. No leaves on the trees, the little buggers are skittish to the slightest movement. With the .17 there is no figuring on whether to hold high or low, is that 75yds or 100 yds, etc. Just dead on and bam. Yeah, it costs more, but really now, $14.00 for a box of 50, that don%26#039;t really break the bank, and I have yet to kill 50 squirrels in a season so a box can last into the second season. . .|||22 RF and all the very simple rifles that have been produced for it are a testimony to the cartridge. It%26#039;s the %26quot; A game%26quot; for learning and keeping skills up to par.

Unless you have a very special niche --- varmint and predator shooting in mid sized feilds.. the 22 will cover all the bases for small game shooting.

In my area... 22 works for so much of the shooting we do... and 17 or 204 Ruger are great... but for the cost you really need to justify it. I can skip the mini centerfires and jump right up to .223 or a quarterbore (or bigger) for any thing we cant shoot well with a 22 LR|||* Hey everything has a price and costs $$$.* All Firearms have specific values, and usages, depending on what species of Game a Hunter is Hunting.* They are neither Gimmicks or Expensive.*|||100% correct,,, expandoexpediter coming out next year to replace zipalongfizzleshooter is awaited by those wanting the best,,something about the printing and new name makes tried an true obsolete,, how many brands 22s mentioned here besides 10/22,, holds half as many ,less accurate than most,,|||It is, for its intended purposes, the most perfect round. Obviously, it can%26#039;t do it all, but that%26#039;s when the others pick up the slack. It is one of my favorites for sure!|||use winchester shells $6 and change at wmart per 100 1300 ft per sec in hp 1400 in 40 grain solid there a quality shell
